That AC unit is the same as was in my ‘66 mustang. It didn’t cool all that much but did a good job of soaking my right foot when taking hard right turns.

40 y ears later, Had I the car today and wanted AC , I would figure out how to eliminate as much air leakage I could through the heater system and the outside air vent.

i had a 66 with 289 and 3 sp manual , pony int, and this ac, the old guy i bought it from said it had never had freon added and it would freeze us in the texas summer, as usual i never own a classic when it’s in demand, sold it in mid 80's for 1500, he was the only one that showed interest, we had a new baby and had to buy a family car

My high school car was a ‘64 Fairlane 4 door with 260 V8 and C4 Transmission. very adequate for high school senior year. My siblings killed it off in about 1978.

Then 2 years later I got a ‘66 stang 200 6 with C4 transmission . I did a lot of driving in that as the result of 2 years as coop student and then 2 summers with GM at Saginaw MI. Wimbleton White with blue base interior. That car presented well but had some rough history. It had been repainted and had a ‘65 front clip on it. It absolutely would not start at below -5f.

It’s decline was gradual and at 114k miles it was sold by my brother for $500 in 1980 to a college girl at university of Iowa. It the right hands, it had some miles left in it but for her it was probably a mistake.

My neighbor has a res tored ‘65 200 6, 3 spd. I drove it once and that ended all nostalgia for me. That clutch and shifter has all the sophistication of a farm implement, and 1st isn’t synchronized. I was also underwhelmed with the vehicle dynamics akin to a farm wagon.

I still have my mustang shop book and I found when I was last home both a ‘65 gas cap and ‘66 gas cap that I must of liberated from wrecking yards.

I daily dro ve a ‘66 for 7 years back in the 90s. I always dreamed of putting ac in that car but never got around to it. 7 years. No ac. In Florida. I loved that car but I don't miss it.
